The thing is, when I was growing up, I was always told that I was ¾ Japanese. It was stated as a fact, you know, like “you’re ¾ Japanese, be proud of that.” But it wasn’t really much discussion about it. I really didn’t come to the realization that I’m “Asian”—whatever Asian comes to mean, you know—until I feel like, other people started labeling me that, as like “asian,” or like “mixed, with Asian?” I was just like, ¾ Japanese.
